Polo Field Map & Directions

Very Important: Do not park on the grass anywhere in Golden Gate Park! No tires on the grass.
The Polo Field in Golden Gate Park is a bit tricky to find for first-timers. Do NOT show up at the park expecting to see signs telling you "Polo Field, this way ->" because these signs simply don't exist. In the same spirit, we did not put most of the street names in the directions below because, well, street name signs are so damn scarce throughout the park (and always have been), you can never tell what street you're on anyway.
Thus, please look carefully for the landmarks we list below, and allow extra time in case you get lost.
From the South (including Sunset, Silicon Valley, 280N)
Via 19th Ave:
- TIP: Left turns are prohibited on 19th Ave, so as you're coming up 19th Ave. from I-280N, you'll need to do a series of (legal) right and left turns to cross 19th Ave.
- 1. Turn right on Irving St.
- 2. Turn left on 18th Ave.
- 3. Turn left on Lincoln Way.
- 4. Turn right on 25th Ave (into the park).
- 5. Turn left at the first stop sign (MLK Dr.).
- 6. Take right at next stop sign (Middle Dr.).
- 7. At the next stop sign the entrance to the fields is straight ahead.
Via Sunset Blvd:
- 1. Proceed North on Sunset Blvd., following signs to Hwy 1/Golden Gate Bridge.
- 2. Exit Brotherhood Way.
- 3. Turn right on Lake Merced.
- 4. Follow the road as it winds around the lake.
- 5. Road turns into Sunset Blvd.
- 6. Sunset Blvd dead ends into Golden Gate Park.
- 7. Turn right at stop sign (MLK Dr.).
- 8. Take left at next stop sign (Middle Dr.).
- 9. At the next stop sign the entrance to the fields is straight ahead.

From the East (including Downtown, Bay Bridge, East Bay, 80W, 101N)
- 1. Take 80W to SF (Bay Bridge).
- TIP: You can skip steps #2-7 if you know how to take the 'new' Octavia Blvd exit off 101 directly to reach Fell St. Then resume directions at #8, below. We will update these directions when we have more exact wording for Octavia Blvd.
- 2. Take the 9TH ST exit towards Civic Ctr./Golden Gate Bridge.
- 3. Turn Left on Harrison.
- 4. Turn Right on 9TH St.
- 5. Turn Left on Hayes.
- 6. Turn Left on Gough.
- 7. Turn Right on Fell.
- 8. Stay in two left lanes.
- 9. As Fell splits (right after Stanyan, where it runs into Golden Gate Park), follow the split to the left (i.e., do not enter the park right now).
- 10. Fell then turns into Lincoln Way.
- 11. Follow Lincoln for about 1.3 miles.
- 12. Turn right on 25th Ave (into the park).
- 13. Turn left at the first stop sign (MLK Dr.).
- 14. Take right at next stop sign (Middle Dr.).
- 15. At the next stop sign the entrance to the fields is straight ahead.

From the North (including Richmond, Marina, Marin County, Golden Gate Bridge, 101S):
- 1. Take Park Presidio Blvd./Hwy 1/ US 101 southbound.
- 2. Drive thorugh Golden Gate Park and turn right at Lincoln Way.
- 3. Turn right on 25th Ave (into the park).
- 4. Turn left at the first stop sign (MLK Dr.).
- 5. Take right at next stop sign (Middle Dr.).
- 6. At the next stop sign the entrance to the fields is straight ahead.

Parking / Road Closure Info
Park anywhere you can, but not on any grass or foliage (big parking ticket). You will probably see players going into/coming out from the south tunnel that leads to the Polo Field. Just before the tunnel, there is a public bathroom that you can use to change clothes - be forewarned, though, that the bathrooms tend to be quite dirty.
ROAD CLOSURE ALERT!
On occasion, particularly on weekends, the access roads to Polo Field may be closed
due to special events. In the event of road closure, park as close as you can to 34th Ave.
& Lincoln Way on the south side of the park. There is a footpath at 34th where you can
walk into the park. Cross the road within the park to the continuation of the footpath
on the other side (when we last checked, there was a drinking fountain here), which
leads directly to the Polo Field.
MUNI directions on N-Judah
- Take the outbound N-Judah to 34th Ave. & Judah. Exit the train at 34th Ave. (But watch that snake turn as it enters Cole Valley, it'll throw you onto someone's lap if you're not hanging on.)
- Allow another 5-10 min. to get to the Polo Field on foot.
- Walk to the right down 34th Ave. toward Golden Gate Park.
- Walk down the footpath at 34th Ave. & Lincoln Way to enter the park.
- Cross the road within the park to the continuation of the footpath on the other side (when we last checked, there was a drinking fountain here), which leads directly to the Polo Field.
