Youth Ultimate Summer Camp 2010
The Youth Ultimate Summer Camp is the marquee event for the Youth Division at Bay Area Disc Association.
Camp Information
What We Teach
We invite all boys and girls ages 8 to 14 to come learn one of the fastest-growing and most fun sports on the planet.
Participants will learn the main skills needed to play Ultimate. They will also gain a working knowledge of more advanced concepts should they decide to try a more competitive level of play in high school. There is no prior experience required, so complete beginners are welcome!
Here is the schedule for Youth Summer Camp 2010:
- Berkeley Session #1 - June 21-25 at Gilman Fields
- Berkeley Session #2 - June 28th to July 2nd at King Middle School
- Peninsula Session - July 26-30 at Burlingame High School
- Each session is Monday to Friday (5 days total), 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
- Base cost = $175 for first child, first session (see "Discounts" below).
Our highly-skilled staff teaches the following skills and components of the game:
- Basic throwing and catching skills
- Basic conditioning and athletic skills such as running, cutting and jumping
- Basic offensive strategies including the vertical and horizontal stacked offense
- Basic defensive strategies - and perhaps most importantly...
- Spirit Of The Game, the core principles that define Ultimate
Throughout the week, campers will develop their skills through a combination of personalized 1:1 instruction, group drills, and supervised team play.
Attention Parents! - Register Online
Online registration for Youth Summer Camp 2010 remains open until Friday, July 23rd. We still have plenty of spots open for both boys and girls in the Peninsula Session. You will need to create a user account, then follow our easy 3-step registration process. You'll also be given the option of paying for the summer camp using PayPal, which is the Bay Area Disc Association's preferred method of accepting online payments. If you registered your kid(s) to Youth Summer Camp 2009 in Berkeley, you'll be able to reuse the same Parent Profile you created last year.

Discounts
Parents who sign up for multiple sessions receive a $50 discount. This discount is good within the same family, and is applicable for 1 child / multiple sessions or 2 or more children in the same session. To apply for the discount, complete registration in our online system, but do not follow the PayPal links right away. Instead, notify the Youth Director so we can adjust your total account balance to the discounted sum. Base cost = $175 for first child, first session. Discounted cost = $125 for each additional session or child.

Our Staff
Jordan Rose, Youth Director
Jordan Rose started the Youth Division from the ground up, launching the Winter Youth Series for high school clubs in January 2009 and also the Youth Summer Camp in July 2009. His dedication and leadership has made it possible for the Youth Division to continue and expand its operations in 2010.
Mr. Rose has coached the Ultimate Frisbee Club at Berkeley High School for the last 4 years from 2007 to 2010. The team's accomplishments during his tenure at Berkeley High School include appearances at the NorCal State Championships from 2007 through 2009 as well as an 11th place finish at the UPA Western High School Ultimate Championships in 2007. Students from his program have gone on to have successful playing careers at UC Berkeley, UCLA, UC Davis, Brown, Princeton, Cornell, Columbia, Washington University and NYU.
Prior to his coaching career at Berkeley High School, Mr. Rose played competitive Ultimate for more than 20 years in New York City, Amherst, Massachusetts, Eugene, Oregon and here in the East Bay.
Geoff Rexroth, Counselor
Geoff Rexroth has coached the Ultimate Frisbee Club at Granada High School in Livermore, CA for the last 2 years from 2008 to 2010, building the program from scratch using all first-year players. In 2010, Mr. Rexroth returns for his second year as a counselor at both Berkeley Sessions and the Peninsula Session. He has 7 years of overall experience working with kids, which includes running an after-school Ultimate mini-league at Croce Elementary School.
His favorite memory from his tenure at Croce Elementary School occurred when they wrote letters and drew pictures for Team USA in 2005. Team USA wrote back after returning from the World Games in Germany, saying that the kids helped inspire them to a gold medal win on the same day their letters and pictures arrived. "The kids were totally geeked about it," says Geoff. "I still get kids coming up to me when I see them talking about how much fun they had playing Ultimate and about that one experience."
Mr. Rexroth has been a competitive Ultimate player at the college and club levels for the last 6 years. He began his playing career at Las Positas College where his teams won the Division III National Championship in 2006 and finished as Nationals runner-up in 2007 and 2008. His Ultimate-related tournament travels at the club level have taken him to Santa Cruz, Oregon, and Ohio.

Dan Haas, Counselor
Dan Haas has coached the Ultimate Frisbee Club at Burlingame Intermediate School for the last 6 years from 2004 to 2010. Being on campus daily as one of the school's Physical Education teachers, he spends every lunch hour with members of the frisbee club as a supplement to their weekly practices. The team, known as BID (Burlingame Intermediate Disc) and composed of 6th, 7th, and 8th graders, has made regular apperances at local tournaments in the Bay Area since 2006.
Prior to his coaching career at Burlingame Intermediate, Mr. Haas played competitive Ultimate at Chico State University, Las Positas College, and in many club-level tournaments which have taken him to Canada, Hawaii, and all over California. Dan's favorite motto is, "When a ball dreams, it dreams it's a frisbee."
